Position Overview, The Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship, is an excellent opportunity for those wanting to enter the industry. No previous experience or certifications are required. What is required is a solid mechanical aptitude and a love of learning and problem-solving. Our Apprenticeship is competency-based, meaning as your skills grow, so will your income.  As an Apprentice, you will participate in self-guided online training and assist more experienced technicians to service various vehicles and Heavy Construction Equipment. You will be responsible for assisting other mechanics in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy construction equipment safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Participate in online training provided by AxisU
  • Service and repair all assigned vehicles, equipment, and associated items without assistance and without delaying production activities.
  • Accurately follow the company’s preventative maintenance program and service schedule.
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment for proper operation and condition.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and operational problems.
  • Work effectively on gasoline and/or diesel engines and all mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and/or electronic systems.
  • Manage pre-trip and post-trip Inspection Reports to identify, track, and complete necessary repairs and maintenance.
  • Train truck drivers and operators on correctly inspect and maintain their assigned vehicles and monitoring maintenance activities.
  • Accurately document all service and repair work. Maintain complete repair and service reports.
  • Other duties as assigned per supervisor.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.

  • Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Stong Mechanical Aptutude 
  • Must be able to supply own tools.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to read, write, and accurately perform basic mathematical functions including adding, subtracting, multiplication and division.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess knowledge of Company policies and procedures, including safety.
  • Must consistently produce an efficient, accurate work product.
  • Must be able to work effectively under time and scheduling deadlines.

Work Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years in age or older.
  • Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
  • Must pass post-offer employment drug testing, medical exams, and physical agilities testing.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and/or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Individuals must wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.

  • Must perform mechanical operations while lying or reclining in awkward positions for extended periods.
  • Must work with their arms above the shoulders for long periods.
  • Requires strenuous physical exertion, standing, walking, and/or climbing in various climates and ground conditions including temperature extremes, rain, wind, and snow for extended lengths of time.
  • Must withstand continuous exposures to wind, dust, fumes, and noxious odors.
  • Must possess the strength, mobility, agility, and balance to walk unrestricted on uneven, unsure, and slippery surfaces without assistance.
  • Must possess unrestricted mobility to twist, turn, bend, and lean in all directions, lookup, down and side to side without hesitation or discomfort.
  • Except for conventional corrective aids, must possess normal eyesight, depth of perception, field of vision, normal hearing, quick reaction time, unimpaired eye-hand coordination, and manual dexterity.
  • Must possess the strength, mobility, agility and balance to ascend access ladders and steps, and to maneuver on equipment and vehicles without assistance.
  • Must repetitively lift up to 100-pounds, 10-times a day.
  • Required upper body strength to perform repetitive bending at the waist.
  • Must repetitively climb and dismount from a high vehicle cab 50-times a day.
  • Must repetitively lift up to 60-pounds, 50-times a day.
  • Must possess sufficient strength to continuously operate equipment controls and tools weighing up to 20-pounds for uninterrupted periods of up to 4-hours.
  • Skeletal, joint and muscle system must withstand continuous impact from driving activities.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat.
  • The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The employee may be exposed to risk of electrical shock or burn.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday with every third Saturday, some holiday work may be required. Generally, 50+ hours per week is availible. Hours: 4:30 PM – 2:30 AM.
